The Kpaka Krim Area Programme (AP) Endline Evaluation assesses the impact of World Vision International Sierra Leone’s initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of vulnerable children in the Kpaka and Kpanga Krim chiefdoms of Pujehun District. The evaluation, conducted in October 2023, covers the programme’s activities from 2011 to 2023, including the Integrated Health for Child Survival (IH4CS) and System Strengthening for Child Survival (SS4CS) programs. The evaluation draws on quantitative and qualitative data to measure the programme’s success in improving child protection, family dynamics, health, nutrition, and sanitation outcomes for the communities involved.
Key findings from the evaluation show substantial progress in child protection, with a significant reduction in violence against children and improved family relationships. The programme has also contributed to better nutrition and health practices, such as increased antenatal care access and improved sanitation. Additionally, the programme successfully engaged community members in addressing critical issues like child abuse and violence, with parents reporting better relationships with their children and an increased ability to provide for their families. However, challenges remain in the areas of child protection, particularly related to corporal punishment and sexual abuse, where further efforts are needed.
The evaluation concludes with several recommendations for improving sustainability and effectiveness. These include strengthening community-led child protection mechanisms, further enhancing the capacity of local partners, and ensuring continued support for vulnerable children. Despite these areas for improvement, the programme has shown promising results in enhancing the wellbeing of children and families in the target communities, providing a model for future interventions in similar contexts.
